CHENNAI: The delay in implementing power projects was the point of debate between the AIADMK and the DMK in the Assembly on Thursday. DMK member T Senguttuvan said power cuts have increased during the AIADMK regime.Intervening, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said Tamil Nadu had plunged into darkness during the DMK regime since it failed to implement the power projects for which MoUs were signed by the AIADMK government. The CM said during the AIADMK regime between 2001-2006, fresh installed capacity to the tune of 2,518 mw was created, whereas the installed capacity created during the DMK regime between 2006-11 was just 206 mw. The Chief Minister further said a MoU was signed in 2003 for generating 1,000 mw at Neyveli as the State’s own project and through this, TN should have got 750 mw. However, the DMK government understood it as Central government project. As a result, the State was getting only 387 mw.
