KOCHI: People from all walks of life flocked to pay their last respects to the late Archbishop Cornelius Elanjikkal on Monday. The mortal remains, kept at the Lourde’s Hospital, was taken to the St Francis Assissi Cathedral at 9 am for the public to pay homage. Major Archbishop Mar George Alenchery, Mar Thomas Chakiath and Mar Sebastian Edayantrathu said the prayers. Punalur Bishop Sylvester Ponnumuthen, Alappuzha Bishop Stephen Athipozhiyil and Kollam Bishop Stanley Roman also paid tributes to the Archbishop. Mayor Tony Chammany, Hibi Eden MLA and Councillor Lino Jacob were also present. Kottappuram Bishop Joseph Karikkassery and Kannur Bishop Varghese Chakkalakkal also assisted Major Archbishop Francis Kallarakkal in the Holy Mass performed at 10 am. Bishop Chakkalakkal, in his condolence speech, said that faith, love and hope had always been his forte. Prayers and commemorative meetings were also conducted in other countries like Italy, Germany, Austria, and America.AICC member Simy Rosebell John also offered her condolences.
