Hyderabad: Telangana auto drivers in the twin cities have called for a 24-hour bandh from Monday midnight to protest against the government’s decision of allowing 20,000 new autos in the city. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, the Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee convener Mohd Amanullah Khan demanded the withdrawal of the GO permitting new autos.
He said that in 2002, the government had restricted new autos citing limited road network, traffic congestion and pollution as the reasons. The government had now taken a U-turn and sanctioned permission for as many as 20,000 new autos. During the past 10 years, the roads had not been widened and the government had ignored the traffic congestion problem, he said.
There is also a shortage of LPG and CNG filling stations in and around the city. They will besiege the office of the additional commissioner of police(Traffic)at the control room on September 11 at 11 am, he added.
