Bangalore: Just a week after the court martial of Anjalli Gupta, the Indian Air Force finds itself in the throes of yet another controversy ? this time, a squadron leader from the Yelahanka station in Bangalore is absconding after his wife died under mysterious circumstances.
Rashmi died under mysterious circumstances on December 6. Her husband, Squadron Leader Rupesh Kishore, claims that Rashmi committed suicide. After the post-mortem he cremated her body but hasn't been heard from ever since.
However, Rashmi's family is not ready to buy Rupesh's version and say that he killed their daughter. They have filed an FIR with the Yelahanka police station against Rupesh.
"After the post-mortem report came, I had asked the air command hospital to keep an eye on Rupesh and his family. The authorities assured me he was being kept under tight security but he managed to escape nonetheless," says Naresh Singh.
Though the post-mortem report says that Rashmi died due to hanging, it's not clear whether she was murdered or she committed suicide.
However, Rashmi's family alleges that there were scars on her face that show she was tortured and harassed.
"There was a deep bluish-green mark on her face as well as nail marks. It seemed as if someone had clamped their hand across her face and held it there till she couldn?t breathe anymore," says Rashmi's sister Rita.
The case, which up till now was with the Air Force police, has been transferred to the Bangalore police instead.
The Bangolore police have started looking for Rupesh Kishore following an FIR filed by Rashmi's father.
Commissioner of Police, Ajai Kumar Singh says, "The case has been handed over to us now and we will track him down whether it?s the air force or any other force that he belongs to."
The family has decided to stay on in Bangalore until Kishore is found.
