TIRUCHY: Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchy (IIM-T), is planning to construct a new campus at a cost of Rs 200 crore. Speaking to Express, sources said the IIM-T, which was temporarily functioning in the National Institute of Technology-Tiruchy (NITT) campus, would move to its new campus by 2014. The new campus is built in a 192.35 acre site, which lies between the Bharathidasan University and the Anna University of Technology-Tiruchy[AUTT].Fearing encroachment, the institute has started constructing a compound wall. As the architectural plans proposed by anyone has to pass through four levels filtration for the board of directors to narrow down to one, the process would consume some time, but once they finalize the plan, everything will be completed soon.Speaking about the other initiatives, sources said IIM-T was focusing much on the academic activities, as there was a heavy competition between the six new IIMs, that includes IIM-Tiruchy, IIM-Raipur, IIM-Ranchi, IIM-Rothak, IIM-Kashipur and IIM-Udhaipur which were started in months gap. Sources also claimed that the IIM-T was performing better than the other new IIMs by means of faculty ratio, students performance and the like.Of the 84 students (the total strength) 50 plus students have already got their placement for the summer internship programme which would begin by April, sources said.Few students have got the opportunity to take up internship in the some of the overseas companies. After completing the internship of two and a half months, all the students would return to the campus to continue with their regular classes. There are another 50 percent companies that would come for the summer internship placements and the whole process would be concluded by the end of this year. Such good response for a new IIM-T is something unusual, sources added.
