Following the successful completion of the Kambala event in the capital city of Bengaluru last year, this year, the traditional folk sport of Tulu Nadu (an annual buffalo race) is once again prepared to make strides. The Kambala Committee has decided to conduct a Kambala event in Malnad, Shivamogga, as part of this season’s Kambala schedule.
If everything goes according to plan, the Kambala sport will be held in Shivamogga on April 19 of next year. With this, the coastal Kambala, which reached Bengaluru last year, will extend its reach to Shivamogga this time.
In a meeting held on Saturday to prepare the schedule for this season’s Kambala, the date for the Shivamogga Kambala was finalised. Additionally, the Bengaluru Kambala will also take place this season. There was uncertainty about whether the Bengaluru Kambala would be held again after its last event. However, the Kambala Committee has resolved this issue by scheduling the first Kambala event of the season in Bengaluru.
The first Kambala in Bengaluru is set for October 26, and the final Kambala will be held in Shivamogga on April 19 of next year. A total of 26 Kambala events will be conducted this season, and the Pilikula Kambala in Mangalore will also be revived, according to the Kambala Committee President, Dr. Belapu Deviprasad Shetty.
