Colombo: The maiden South Asian Winter Games will be held in India in January-February 2008, it was announced on Monday.
The games will be held in Dehra Dun and Auli in the Uttaranchal state, Olympic Council of Asia secretary-general Randhir Singh announced after a meeting of the South Asian Games Council.
Ice hockey and ice skating events will be staged in Uttaranchal’s capital Dehradun while the skiing competition will be held in Auli.
India has twice hosted the South Asian Federation Games, which were launched in 1984 in Kathmandu. While Kolkata hosted in 1987, Madras staged the games in 1995.
The 10th edition of the games is currently on in Colombo.
