The biggest international golf tournament in the country with prize money of $3,00,000 kicks off on Thursday.

New Delhi: The Indian Golf Open begins in New Delhi on Thursday and the tournament has attracted 144 players from India and abroad.

The biggest international golf tournament in the country offers prize money of $300,000.

Top Indian players like Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal will be seen in action after a long time on Indian soil.

IBN caught up with Randhawa who is trying really hard to raise the profile of golf in India as it continues to remain a niche sport.

The Indian Open has been won several times by local golfers and the 2000 champion Randhawa, is hoping for an Indian win again.

Everytime the Indian Open comes along, the sporting pages find some place for Indian golf. But the interest lasts only till the tournament ends.

Randhawa is convinced that to popularise the game it has to be made accessible to more people.

Lack of money and sponsorship is also a reason for very few Indian players making it to the international arena.

So its only events like the Indian Open that can help create more interest among corporate sponsors for Indian golf.
