Instant relief: noodles for hungry Bihar flood victims
Relief has been slow and thousands of people are yet to be rescued.

New Delhi: Tens of thousands of Bihar flood victims still struggling to get cooked food will soon get packets of noodles, courtesy a leading manufacturer of packaged food items, Health Secretary Naresh Dayal said on Friday.

“Nestle India has offered Rupees one million worth of noodles for relief camps. The Indian Red Cross is in charge of distribution,” Dayal said.

“Cooking food during the flood affected area is a problem, so this will be of great help. It's easy to cook, easy to eat and safe as well,” he told reporters.

Millions of people are suffering in Bihar flood, triggered by the surging waters of the Kosi river.

The floods have claimed 22 lives officially and over 2.5 million people and 925,000 head of cattle have been affected.

According to non-official estimates, nearly 100 people have lost their lives.

According to official sources, so far 830,000 people have been evacuated from over 898 villages of five districts by government agencies in last 15 days with the help of the defence forces.

At least 275,000 people are staying in over 250 relief camps in the area.
