KOZHIKODE: Citing provisions under the Foreigners Order and the violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Israeli writer Susan Nathan, facing deportation, has filed a petition before the Kozhikode Judicial FirstClass Magistrate Court-4 to allow her appear before the court in the case registered against her by Nadakkavu police.In the petition filed by the 62-year-old writer’s counsel Manjeri Sunder Raj before the Judicial First Class Magistrate G Mahesh, the accused cited that under the provisions of the Foreigners Order 1948, such departure from India cannot be allowed as the accuser’s presence is required to answer a criminal charge that is now levelled against her by the Nadakkavu police. The petitioner added that she was house arrested by the Nadakkavu police and owing to this, her counsel is unable to make her appear before the court.March 9. Nadakkavu Police had registered a case against her under Sections 14 (a) and (b) of the Foreigners Act on February 27.Susan Nathan also lodged a complaint before the State Human Rights Commission member K E Gangadharan at the Commission’s sitting in Kannur. In the complaint, she cited that she was kept under house arrest by the police and this is violation of Article 6, 7 and 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Considering her complaint, the commission ordered for a report from the police on this regard.
