A 32-year-old IT professional allegedly died by suicide in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, after inhaling nitrogen from a pipe while tightly wrapping a polythene bag around his face, a police official said on Thursday.
Siddharth Khurana, who was being treated for depression and back pain, left behind a 4-page suicide note in English detailing his struggles and expressing his exhaustion with living a “miserable life.”
According to police sources, Khurana researched various methods of suicide online, ultimately choosing nitrogen inhalation for its quick effect, which he believed would cause death within 40 seconds.
His note also mentioned actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by suicide in June 2020, according to Misrod police station inspector Manishraj Bhadauriya.
“After being alerted, we entered Khurana’s house, which was bolted from inside, on Tuesday,” the official said.
The police discovered Khurana’s body on Tuesday after being alerted to his home, which was bolted from the inside.
An image of Khurana, dressed in shorts and a black t-shirt, with a polythene bag around his face and a nitrogen cylinder nearby, went viral on social media.
Originally from Lucknow, Khurana was living alone after his live-in partner left him two weeks prior. He had been working from home for a reputed IT company since November.
“Khurana hailed from Lucknow and was living in the house alone after his live-in partner left him a fortnight ago. He was employed with a a reputed IT company and was working from home since November. As per our probe, he was being treated for depression and back pain. The short post mortem report is awaited,” Bhadauriya said.
“We will record the statement of his girlfriend. The body has been handed over to the kin,” he added.
