London: Jade Goody, thrown out of Britain’s Big Brother television show after bullying Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty in 2007, is to take part in the Indian version of the show because she wants to clear her name, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
“Jade wasn’t sure when she was first approached because she was worried about how the Indian housemates and public might react,” British daily The Sun quoted an unnamed source as saying.
“She was really upset about everything that happened after the scandal last year. People in India were burning effigies of her in the street.
“But she really wants to clear her name and prove to everyone she’s not racist.”
The British celebrity is reportedly being paid £ 100,000 for taking part in the show and has told her family she could be away for three months.
In a further twist, the show - called Bigg Boss - will be fronted by Shetty.
Goody was thrown out of Celebrity Big Brother in January 2007 after some 50,000 viewers complained about her behaviour - she called Shetty “Shilpa Poppadom” and mocked the way she ate.
Goody later said she was “disgusted with herself”, but denied she was racist.
The Indian show, which is expected to last three months, will see 12 Indian celebrities take part.
