Even though Haryana government on Sunday conceded to the demands of Jats for reservation by agreeing to bring a bill in the next Assembly session granting OBC status to Jats, the state is yet to be brought back to normalcy.
There has been a slight movement of traffic since 2.30 am on the Sonipat-GT Road-Delhi route resulting in over 150 people being stranded mid-way. Mobs have been attacking the stranded people, breaking windows of the cars. However, no injuries have been caused to any of those stranded on the route.
Earlier on Sunday, members of the Jat community blocked Yamuna Expressway and NH2, disrupting traffic for hours. Protesters have blocked several road intersections and railway tracks. Traffic along Karnal-Meerut road disrupted due to Jat agitation. Traffic along Karnal-jind road has also been disrupted. Karnal-Kaithal road, Rohtak-Gohana road, Jhajjar-Bahadurgarh road, Hisar-Sirsa road and Bhiwani-Rohtak road are witnessing traffic snarls due to the protests.
After around 70 trains were cancelled due to the protests, Railways is trying to restore the services. Clearing the blockade on Palwal- Mathura section, a special train was pressed into service from Jammu to facilitate movement of stranded passengers.
According to a senior Railway official, one unreserved special train with 24 coaches was pressed into service to facilitate travel of passengers. The special train started its journey at 8.30 pm from Jammu with stoppages at Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Ghaziabad stations.
