Jayakumar all set to be Speaker of TN Assembly

CHENNAI: Former ministers D Jayakumar and P Dhanapal are set to become the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu’s 14th Assembly. Both candidates were elected unopposed as no other nominations were filed against their candidature till 12 noon on Thursday which was the deadline for the filing of nominations.Pro-tem Speaker CK Thamizharasan will announce the election of Jayakumar and Dhanapal in the House on May 27. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Leader of Opposition, Vijaykanth will lead the new Speaker to his chair in the Assembly and leaders of various parties will greet Jayakumar and his deputy.Both Jayakumar and Dhanapal had filed their nominations with the Assembly Secretary AMP Jamaludeen just 10 minutes before the deadline for filing nominations ended. Both the nominations had been proposed by the chief minister and seconded by the Finance minister O Panneerselvam.
