HYDERABAD: There is a great possibility that some present jewellery designs are likely to be inspired from designs that date back to several centuries.A photo exhibition of rare jewellery collections from museums across India at Salarjung Museum on Friday proved just as much.Dr ML Nigam, former director of Salarjung museum, who presented the ‘Indian Jewellery’ photo presentation, gave the audience a glimpse of various jewellery pieces dating back to 10th century AD, from museums with special reference to the AP state museum and Salarjung. The museum authorities and Intach Hyderabad in association with the heritage club of St Ann’s College for Women had organised the event.Nigam presented images from collections of the Nizams, Kakatiyas and Vijayanagar rulers and described about differences in jewellery of different eras and regions.P Anuradha Reddy, convener, Intach Hyderabad also presented another photo collection on ‘Images of India’.It included sketches, paintings, photographs, etc from various eras by Dutch, Danes, French, Portuguese and British who ruled India during different eras.A great source of knowledge was the first handmade imaginary maps on India by the French. Images from different time periods of Indians, their occupations, musical instruments and others were displayed.
