BANGALORE: After checking the facilities given for physically challenged in various State Government offices, Commissioner for Persons with Disability K V Rajanna is now demanding jobs as per the reservation in government offices.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Rajanna said that the Karnataka Public Service Commission has invited applications for recruitment to various posts in different departments. But in this notification, the reservation to persons with disabilities has not been given. The reason they say is that posts identification has not been done for persons with disabilities. "We are demanding to stop the recruitment process and advising to renotify after giving necessary reservation to persons with disabilities," he said.

since 2003," he said. Moreover, he explained that the committee does not have any representation from the beneficiaries' side. "There is a need to have persons with disabilities as one of the office bearers," he observed.

According to Karnataka Civil Service (General Recruitment) Rules 1977, persons with disability should be given three per cent reservation and five per cent reservation while recruiting for the posts of Group AGroup B and Group CGroup D respectively. Rajanna said there are 18 lakh people with disability in the state. There are altogether around 6,000 people with disabilities working in various government offices. "There are backlog of more than 18,000 posts in the category which have not filled for many years," he said.
