Veteran RSP leader K Pankajakshan, who passed away on Tuesday, was a doyen of Kerala coalition politics.
He was elected to the state Assembly five times and had been minister for various terms in five ministries.
Highly respected in political and social circles, Pankajakshan had been instrumental in stabilising RSP in Kerala politics before moving to the national scene as the national general secretary of the undivided RSP.
Later, he stepped down and kept a low profile due to health reasons.
Pankajakshan had left his mark as Labour Minister and also proved his mettle as Minister of Public Works on many occasions.
He was an authority on labour issues, thanks to his close association with he trade union movements through which he was groomed while in active politics.
One among the stalwarts in the league of leaders like late N Sreekantan Nair, late Baby John and others, Pankajakshan was viewed with admiration even by his political opponents.
A suave politician with little or no controversy tagged with him, he was a determined and able administrator.
He had represented Thiruvananthapuram West and Thiruvananthapuram - II constituencies during his first two terms in the Assembly.
He represented Aryanadu constituency for three consecutive terms - 1980, 1982 and 1987.
He had a good following within the party and an even larger following outside.
Pankajakshan is survived by wife C.
Vijayanthy and children Basanth Pankajakshan, Biny Pankajakshan and Dr Indu.
