Kamayani Express shook like a tree in storm, recounts accident survivor Santosh Singh
At least 20 people travelling in Kamayani Express have died.

A passenger travelling in Kamayani Express, who survived the train accident, recounted the ordeal and thanked god. Speaking to IBNLive, the passenger Santosh Singh, who is from Patna in Bihar and was travelling from Mumbai to Allahabad, said the train shook like a tree in a storm and then the bogie he was in fell off the tracks. At least 20 people travelling in Kamayani Express have died.

Rajender Nagar Terminal Patna-Mumbai Janata Express coming from the opposite direction, too, fell off the track leading to more casualties.

Below is Santosh Singh's account:

We were a group of three travelling from Mumbai to Allahabad in Kamayani Express. Our coach was just before the general compartment. At around 11-15 in the night, most of the passengers were preparing for their sleep. It was raining and pitch dark outside.

We ate our food and were about to sleep. Suddenly the entire train started to shake. It shook like a tree in storm. We thought something had hit the train. Many passengers started crying and screaming. Those who were sleeping woke up. The luggage kept above the seats fell down. The train started going down like an aeroplane landing. It was horrifying.

Within a minutes there was an utter chaos. Our coach hit the ground. Fortunately we were unhurt except some bruises. We did not know how to get out of it. Some jumped out of the window. We too did the same and landed on wet soil. It was knee deep. Somebody said that the train had fallen into a shallow river.

There was no light and it was pitch dark outside. The sky was cloudy. We managed to wade through knee deep water and reached a slightly elevated area. Then we realised that another train coming from the opposite side had also fallen off the tracks. We got scared. Some passengers started saying that hundreds have died. We too thought so.

Somebody shouted not to touch the overturned coaches saying that they might get electrocuted. Two-three died, I was told.

After 30 minutes locals rushed to the spot. The officials came after two hours. Rescue operation started after that.

We have lost our baggage, tickets, everything. Authorities are telling us that they will send us home in an emergency train. So far no train has come.

We thank god that we are alive and safe. We survived this train crash. It looks like a miracle.

I have decided not to take night trains in future. Accidents happen only in the night. Am I right?

What's your reaction?
