KANCHEEPURAM: Revival of handloom silk industry in Kancheepuram was something that everyone in the temple city expected for sure from their newlyelected legislator V Somasundaram. But, that does not top the work agenda of the former handlooms minister. Instead, he is keen on implementing the much-awaited Sevilimedu underground sewerage scheme that was abandoned by the previous regime, though funds were duly allotted for it.
Somasundaram made his agenda known, when he met newlyappointed District Collector Shivashanmugaraja here on Saturday afternoon. The collector, on his part, assured the MLA that the project would be implemented soon.

Located on the outskirts of Kancheepuram municipality, Sevilimedu town panchayat decided to implement the sewerage project when the then State government refused to include some areas, such as Pallavan Nagar and Tamil Nadu Housing Board Quarters, in the municipal sewerage network.

Walajabad Ganeshan, legislator of neighbouring Uthiramerur constituency, also met the Collector and discussed his developmental plans on Saturday. Setting up a road bridge at Manalmedu and bifurcating Uthiramerur to make Walajabad a fullfledged taluk are his top priorities. Laying roads and solving drinking water problem are also part of his plan.

What's your reaction?
