If you are getting old, the promise of an “elixir” to make you young again does seem enchanting. However, as foolish as it may sound, dozens of elderly people from Kanpur fell for this captivating assurance and lost crores of rupees when a couple approached them with the idea of turning back the clock to make them young again.
The scamsters—Rajeev Dubey and his wife Rashmi— earned around Rs 35 crore from this dubious scheme and are suspected to have fled abroad after the matter came into the limelight. The couple was running a therapy centre in Kanpur’s Kidwai Nagar and offering “oxygen therapy” using “Israel-made time machine” to make people look young again at Rs 90,000 per session, according to Times of India.
The accused also offered discounts to those people who bring more business for them. The police said the couple were misleading people that they were getting old due to “extreme high pollution levels” in Kanpur.
The main complainant, Renu Singh, alleged that she was cheated of Rs 10.75 lakh, NDTV reported.
A cheating case under section 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered by the police against the couple.
