RAMANATHAPURAM: Pilgrims flocking to Katchathivu to attend the annual St Antony’s church festival face an uphill task since they are forced to stand in long queues at the check-in counters at Rameswaram set up by the Customs and Revenue departments. They have sought more check-in counters for early departure from Rameswaram jetty. Keviston of Pamban, a fisherman, said the number of counters should be increased for the convenience of the people. However, District Collector Nantha Kumar has assured in a recent meeting held at the Collectorate here, that three check-in counters would be established at the starting point at Rameswaram for the early departure of people from the jetty. A control room would be set up at the starting point to communicate to officials, including those of Indian Navy, ICG, CSG police and Fisheries department.
