Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Assembly on Wednesday paid rich tributes to late Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, T M Jacob who died of multiple organ failure at a private hospital here on Sunday.
Moving a condolence message, Speaker G Karthikeyan termed Jacob as an able parliamentarian and an administrator who was held in high esteem by all. "Jacob was a man who took House proceedings very seriously and participated in the discussions after studying the issues," Karthikeyan said.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said Jacob during his three-decade-old political life translated into opportunities the challenges and crises that came his way.
Jacob, who became a member of the state assembly when he was just 26 in 1977, surprised all senior MLAs with his performance, he said.
Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said Jacob was a good parliamentarian and showed courage while carrying out his responsibilities. "I had a good friendly relationship with Jacob, though there were political differences with him," Achuthanandan said.
State Ministers K M Mani, P K Kunhalikutty, Shibu Baby John, K B Ganesh Kumar, K P Mohanan and CPI leader D Divakaran and other party leaders of LDF also paid tributes.
The House was adjourned for the day after paying tributes to Jacob.
