Green paint and pencils tracing the outline of wildlife and foliage, characterised the poster making competition, conducted by National Museum of National History (NMNH) in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, on Sunday. School children between the 14 – 17 age group from over 15 schools in the city, participated in the competition which had the topic of ‘Biodiversity - Preserving Western Ghats.’
The competition was conducted simultaneously in seven states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa, as part of the Children’s Sahyadri Biodiversity Conference at the Salarjung Museum in Hyderabad. This is being conducted along with the ‘Convention of Biological Diversity’ conference in Hyderabad.
One winner from each venue will be chosen to attend the children’s conference, where they will give presentations about biodiversity and the reason it needs to be preserved. “The winner will be given a cash prize of Rs 10,000,” said C Rajasundaram, scientist and head of office of the Regional Museum of Natural History, a part of NMNH.
“The main aim of this competition is to sensitise the students belonging to the Western Ghats on the various aspects of its biodiversity, and tell them about its value,” said Rajasundaram.
