BANGALORE: The All India Consumer Rights Forum (AICRF) has opposed the upcoming Koppal by-election stating that it is a waste public money and the resources of the treasury.“The Koppal by-election is a total waste of crores of public money. It will also cause losses to the state treasury. We plead to the voters of Koppal to boycott the election,” said Gnana Prakash, president, AICR, at a press conference on Tuesday.Sharply criticising the reason for the byelection, Prakash said that the moving of a candidate from one party to another, is wrong. “If Karadi Sanganna’s shift from JD(S) to BJP was objectionable, the opposition parties could have opposed it in the Parliament,” he said. The All India Consumer Rights Forum also called for amendments to the Representation of the People Act, 1951. “We have filed a writ petition in Karnataka HC regarding this. We are waiting for the court’s response,” he said. The AICR has also asked Anna Hazare to join them in protest against the Koppal byelection, which is scheduled to be held on September 26.“We will take to the streets in a few days. Public money should not be wasted,” said Prakash.
