Demanding a uniform education policy, the members of Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) and other pro-Kannada organisations staged a state-wide symbolic protest at all district centres, including Bangalore, on Saturday.
They also threatened to protest if the State Government fails to withdraw its decision, allowing English-medium from sixth standard in 341 government schools in the State.
The President of the Parishat Pundalik Halambi said, “With English language having its impact on regional languages, there is a need to save Kannada through education. There should be equality in education in government, aided and un-aided schools. If not, this inequality will have an impact on the minds of children.”
Demanding immediate implementation of the Sarojini Mahishi report on reservation for goverment jobs for those who have studied in Kannada medium,Halambi sought it should be applied to private sectors too.
