BANGALORE: The High Court on Wednesday quashed the state government’s notification to acquire 250 acres of land for Bellary Airport in Chaganur and Siriwar villages in Bellary district.Justice S Abdul Nazeer quashed the government notification dated May 23, 2009. The petitioners, a group of 78 farmers hailing from the two villages, appealed before the court that the land notified for the airport was fertile and constructing an airport there would hamper irrigation to around 4,000 acres of land, thereby rendering it barren. A total of 250 acres of land belonging to the 78 farmers was notified for the project. The state government had notified that it would acquire around 1,200 acres of land for the airport, later returned 300 acres excess land.Action Report on Fake BPL Cards SoughtThe High Court on Wednesday directed the the Food and Civil Supply Department to submit a report on action taken on the cancellation of fake BPL cards within six weeks.
