Mumbai: There are tough times ahead for consumers in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra as the power tariffs have been hiked by as much as 16 per cent.

The state electricity commission announced the hike to bridge the revenue gap. The state power corporation has a revenue deficit of Rs 7623 crore.

The hike will help recover Rs 6921 crore.

Following the hike in the tariffs, hundred units of power will now cost Rs 3.36 instead of Rs.3.11.
