Wellington: Former one-day skipper Craig McMillan has been left out of New Zealand's provisional 30-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in October.
Black Caps coach John Bracewell said McMillan, who played the last of his 175 one-day internationals against Australia in December, had been left out of the squad for the tournament starting in India on October 7 for fitness reasons.
"Craig McMillan was omitted from the 30 because of concerns about his fitness," Bracewell said.
"This does not mean Craig has been ruled out of contention for next year's World Cup but he will need to focus his efforts if he is to be selected for the Black Caps over the summer."
There was a recall for 36-year-old Chris Harris despite the weathered all-rounder missing out on one of the 20 central contracts announced by New Zealand Cricket earlier in the year.
The squad, which contains seven players yet to represent their country, will be trimmed down to 14 on the International Cricket Council's deadline of September 7.
New Zealand open their Champions Trophy campaign against South Africa in Mumbai on October 16.
