TIRUCHY: The district unit of the MDMK is gearing up for the blockade of 13 entry points to Kerala from Tamil Nadu on December 21 against Kerala’s insistence to decommission the existing Mullaiperiyar dam. Party functionaries, who held a meeting to discuss preparations for the blockade, explained to the workers about the need for making the people of Kerala realise their dependence on TN for rice, vegetables, eggs, meat, milk and other essential commodities. District secretary A Malarmannan said every detail from transport, food, accommodation and point of protest was explained to the workers. Besides cadre from Tiruchy, those from the nearby Perambalur, Karur and Ariyalur would leave from Tiruchy. Over 1,500 workers from Tiruchy and neighbouring districts would participate in the protest, he said. About 1,000 cadre would leave from Tiruchy alone, he added. The point allocated to workers from the region was Bodi, he said. Vehicles, food and accommodation for all the workers had been arranged by the district unit, Malarmannan said and added that the number of protestors had been restricted due to the required arrangements and cost involved.
