The Assam government has announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs two lakh to the families of the eight coal mine labourers.

The sources said that the attack created fear among the migrant population especially in remote mining villages where they were employed. The security has been tightened in the South Garo mine fields in the wake of the incident.

Of the eight coal mine labourers, seven hailed from Goalpara and one from Bilasipara, official sources said.
