Mercedes-Hit-And-Run Case: Teenage Driver to be Tried as Adult
The tragic death of the 32-year-old man was captured on a CCTV camera.

New Delhi: The teenager, who allegedly ran over a marketing executive while driving his father's Mercedes car in April in Delhi, will be tried as an adult, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) said on Saturday.

The Board gave the order based on Section 15 of the amended Juvenile Justice act.

The accident took place at the Sham Nath Marg in north Delhi's Civil Lines area on April 4 when Siddhartha Sharma was mowed down by the speeding car while crossing the road.

Reacting to this, the victim's sister Shilpa Mittal said, "We know we won't get justice easily. We are fighting to set an example that no one is above law."

The tragic death of the 32-year-old man was captured on a CCTV camera. The victim's family had released the CCTV footage to prove that the offending driver was over-speeding.

The father of the underage driver, Manoj Aggarwal, was also arrested after police found he gave the car to the teenager despite the fact that he was involved in previous cases of rash driving.

Police had said that the Mercedes car involved in the accident was booked for traffic violations thrice in 2015.

According to the police, the teenager was booked under culpable homicide because it was clear he knew that driving rashly in that residential area could cause a fatal accident.
