Ministers make Calicut Varsity proud

MALAPPURAM: With the swearing in of P K Abdu Rabb and M K Muneer  as ministers in the UDF Government headed by Oommen Chandy, the Calicut University has achieved a rare feat. Both of them are members of the governing body of the C H Mohammed Koya Chair, instituted by Calicut University and sponsored by the C H Mohammed Koya Trust for the study of developing societies. It is for the first time that the members of the governing body of any academic chair of the university becoming ministers. Similarly, the university will witness the rarity of a Syndicate member becoming its pro-chancellor. P K Abdu Rabb, who was sworn in as the Education Minister on Monday is a Syndicate member of the university. The education minister of the state is the pro-chancellor of all its universities. Abdu Rabb as a Syndicate member had taken great efforts to set up the C H Mohammed Koya Chair. The Chair, instituted last year, will start its activities soon. Abdu Rabb is becoming the education minister at a time when Calicut University is awaiting a decision on vice-chancellor and pro-vice chancellor posts. Abdu Rabb has been a Syndicate member of the university for the past eight years.
