NABARANGPUR: Banki legislator Prabhat Tripathy and three others were injured in an accident near Umerkote on Thursday morning. Tripathy and other partymen were on their way to Raighar in a van for electioneering for the by-election when the mishap occurred. Sources said a cyclist crossed the road just in front of the vehicle at Behada, about 12 km from Umerkote, on Thursday leading to the mishap. The driver, in a bid to save the cyclist, turned the vehicle and lost control over it and in the process hit a tree along the road. The legislator received head injures. They were rescued by passersby and shifted to Umerkote hospital. Tripathy was shifted to SCB Medical, Cuttack, in the evening though his condition is stated to be stable. The campaign was suspended with the leaders out to meet him.
