THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The MLAs in the district have rubbished the allegations of the Federation of Residents’ Association Nemom Sector (FRANS), saying that they were not responsible for the delay in the works on the Karamana-Kaliyakkavila stretch. The officials responsible for widening have allegedly put the blame on the MLAs, claiming  that the MLAs were given the CDs containing the alignment. However, the MLAs said that they were yet to receive the CDs.Nemom MLA V Sivankutty said that it was for the government to convene a meeting of the MLAs on the issue. “There was an agreement to continue with the 30.2-metre widening of the 30-metre National Highway. No MLA has raised complaints on the alignment. We haven’t received any CD also,” he said.Kovalam MLA Jameela Prakasam said the PWD Minister must convene a meeting of the MLAs.“N Shaktan MLA and I had raised an issue on the development of the Balaramapuram Junction. The roads leading to Vizhinjam and Kattakkada too must be widened in order to get the benefit of the works. Also, an issue of alignment raised by some residents too was submitted to the officials. However, the officials, so far, have not responded to the query. The government must initiate the land acquisition proceedings. The MLAs have nothing to do, unless the work gets moving,” she added.Officials are diverting the attention of the public by raising such issues, said Neyyattinkara MLA R Selvaraj. He said the question of alignment arose only after acquiring the land. “There is enough fund for the widening works. But the officials are purposefully lagging the works. The matter is not with the MLAs,” he added. “The government had earlier informed that it would provide a CD of the alignment. But we haven’t got that yet,” he said. FRANS has plans to organise marches to the houses of Nemom MLA V Sivankutty, Kovalam MLA Jameela Prakasam, Kattakkada MLA N Sakthan,  Parassala MLA A T George and Neyyattinkara MLA R Selvaraj. This is in protest against the alleged delay in NH-widening works.
