'Mother, Forgive Me': Final-Year Medical Student In Assam Dies By Suicide
A senior police officer said two notes were recovered from the student's room in which he sought forgiveness from his mother and claimed that no one was responsible for his death

A 24-year-old MBBS student was found hanging at his residence in Assam’s Cachar district. Two hand-written notes, which his family members verified as that of the student, were recovered from the spot, police said.

The final-year student of Silchar Medical College and Hospital was found hanging in his room late on September 3 following which the police were informed. A senior officer said in the notes, the student sought forgiveness from his mother and claimed that no one was responsible for his death.

“Mother, forgive me. I am leaving you today. I am unable to handle the depression and I feel a pain near my chest…” NDTV quoted from one of the notes recovered by the police. “I am willingly committing suicide, nobody is responsible for my suicide,” the second note is quoted.

Police said the student claimed that he was suffering from acute depression. The hand-written notes will be examined by a handwriting expert and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is on, they said.

“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of death by suicide,” a police official told NDTV. Reports said fellow students described the 24-year-old as someone who was reserved and academically bright.
