HYDERABAD: The Congress has come out with a statement on smaller states with an intention not to thwart or frustrate the movement for Telangana state but only to checkmate Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati who wants to divert the public attention from her "venal public life" to something very urgent _ division of the state into four smaller states, Malkajgiri Congress MP Sarve Satyanarayana has said.
"Because Mayawati had said that she would ensure adoption of a resolution in the next Assembly session for division of the state into four smaller states, the Congress national leadership had to act. The statements that the Congress would always institute a second SRC are, however, not meant for Telangana," he told reporters here on Thursday.Satyanarayana felt that had the Congress really wanted to appoint a second SRC to look into the demand for separate Telangana state, it would not have gone through the elaborate motions towards formation of a separate state since 2004. "I know the mind of our party president. If she did not want to give Telangana, she would have said then itself: Sorry, I cannot give it."
