New Delhi: Adhir Ranjan Chaudhury, an MP from Beharampore in West Bengal was arrested in the capital on Saturday.
Chaudhury, who was held in connection with a twin murder case registered in July this year, was taken to the Patiala House soon after his arrest.
A joint team of West Bengal and Delhi Police arrested him from his Delhi residence on Saturday morning. He has been handed over to the West Bengal Police on a transit remand.
He has two non-bailable arrest warrants issued against him. The first is in a case of murder of two persons on July 25 this year, and other for a case of rioting in January.
Inspector of the Behrampur Police station, Pratyut Banerjee says, "A non-bailable warrant issued by the CJM court in Behrampore was pending against him."
Chaudhury?s friend and former Congress MP Debo Prasad Rai says, "When the murders took place, Adhir and his wife were in Delhi. This is a conspiracy against him."
The Congress calls the arrest a conspiracy by the CPI (M).
Meanwhile, the Congress MP is being taken to Murshidabad, where the district Congress is to take charge of the issue.
