Mumbai: A memorial for slain 26/11 policeman Tukaram Ombale will be unveiled at Girgaum Chowpatty in Mumbai on the third anniversary of the terror attacks. Ombale was shot dead by terrorist Ajmal Kasab during the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
"It is a matter of pride to be awarded the prestigious project of fabricating the bronze statue of Ombale, Ashoka Chakra awardee and assistant sub inspector of police, who laid his life and nabbed the only alive terrorist of the Mumbai seige of 26/11," R Yawalkar of Yawalkar Statuary, a sculpting
studio said.
"The four feet high statue was fabricated in clay on the basis of the approved photographs of Ombale and his uniform, which we procured from his daughter, Vaishali Ombale.
Upon completion of the clay model, the family of the martyr, along with professor Shintre of J J School of Art and BMC officials, visited our studio," he said.
"They were extremely satisfied with the model. The JJ School of Art has given a letter, expressing their approval with regard to the statue. The bronze statue of Ombale will be unveiled on November 26 at Girgaum Chowpatty," he said.
The memorial will be in the vicinity of another memorial for the braveheart, built by local BJP MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha, which stands on the pavement along the road where the shootout took place.
