Mumbai: In what could bring a bit relief to the residents of illegal flats of the Campa Cola Society, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has deferred the demolition of the South Mumbai residential compound.
BMC has agreed to defer the demolition process till June 20.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) had earlier said that it would start taking action against the residents of the illegal flats from June 17.
"We will start taking action against the residents from June 17. But before that we will send a notice under section 488 of Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act to all unauthorised flat owners on 14th, 15th and 16th June," an MCGM official had then said.
The residents are not willing to leave the illegally built flats, which are to be demolished, even after the Supreme Court's refusal to give them relief.
The Supreme Court had ordered that residents to vacate their illegal flats by May 31.
