Mumbai: New Video Shows Moment When Ghatkopar Billboard Crashed Down On Petrol Pump

A fresh video capturing the moment when a 120 ft x 120 ft billboard fell on a patrol pump in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area due to gusty winds and rains on Monday evening has surfaced on the internet.

The rescue operation at the site of the hoarding collapse in Mumbai was completed after three days of the horrific incident in which 16 people lost their lives and 41 others sustained critical injuries.

The fresh video recorded from a car driving past the petrol pump during the incident is now doing the rounds of the internet. Though several other spine-chilling videos of the collapse have flooded the web, this new one is unique as it captures the exact moment of the collapse amid the heavy rain and water streams on the road.

The video initially focuses on the road and then the camera turns to the left window side. Trucks, cars, and two-wheelers are seen at the fuel pump, some to refuel and others to escape the rain. Then, the billboard comes crashing down.

BMC commissioner Bhushan Gagrani on Thursday morning announced that the rescue operation was now over. Earlier today, rescue personnel retrieved the bodies of a retired general manager of Air Traffic Control (ATC) and his wife. The bodies of the couple were extricated from a car stuck underneath the hoarding.

A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said that the bodies, which were in a “decomposed state”, were taken to the nearby civic-run Rajawadi Hospital around 1 am.

10 TEAMS LOOKING FOR BHAVESH BHINDE

Mumbai Police’s crime branch has formed more than 10 teams have been formed to find Bhavesh Bhinde, the owner of the collapsed billboard in Ghatkopar area.

The police personnel believe that he have fled from Lonavala towards Pune.  Some teams have been sent to Gujarat as well and other teams have been stationed around airport.As per the civic body, Bhinde’s agency did not have a permit from the BMC to put up the hoarding.

The hoarding measured about 1,338 square metres (14,400 square feet), it said, bigger than an Olympic pool’s 1,250 sq m and nine times more than the maximum permitted size for a hoarding.

The agency’s owner, Bhavesh Bhinde, and others were also booked under sections 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt to another person by acting rashly or negligently) of the Indian Penal Code. The case has been registered at Pantnagar police station and the investigation is underway.
