Uttar Pradesh government has decided to provide relief of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of 12 children who died in the bitter cold this winter at riot camps in Muzaffarnagar.
"Upon a direction from the state government, the families of the 12 children, who died in the cold at the relief camps, will be provided a sum of Rs 2 lakh each," additional district magistrate Indermani Tripathi told reporters in Muzaffarnagar.
Supreme Court had expressed concern over the deaths of children in the cold at the relief camps which were set up as shelters for displaced persons following the riots in Muzaffarnagar in September of last year.
