New Delhi: Congress and BJP on Monday sought the intervention of West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi to restore peace at troubled Nandigram.
PTI quoted State Congress general secretary Manas Bhuniya saying that their apprehension that the situation at Nandigram might deteriorate proved to be true after yesterday's violence in which one person was killed, another was missing and 10 were injured.
He said that Congress has appealed to the governor to intervene and convene an all-party meeting to restore peace and normalcy at Nandigram. An all-party meeting convened by the district magistrate would not be fruitful as the administration was responsible for the March 14 incident at Nandigram, he alleged.
Bhuniya said that the situation might worsen if peace was not restored immediately.
He said that a PCC delegation would soon meet party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and apprise them of the prevailing situation at Nandigram.
State BJP general secretary Rahul Sinha also sought personal intervention of the governor and requested him to visit Nandigram at the earliest.
In a memorandum to the Governor, he alleged that the CPI-M supporters had been attacking the people at Nandigram from adjoining Khejuri and Bhangabera in the past one-and-a- half months.
