New Delhi: Senior US diplomat Richard Boucher on Monday discussed the Indo-US Nuclear Deal with Minister of State for External Affairs, Anand Sharma.
The meeting comes on a day when the joint Indo-US campaign to win over the Nuclear Suppliers' Group (NSG) sceptics received a blow with a few countries remaining unconvinced with the new draft presented to them.
The draft -- while within India's red lines -- has not found favour with countries like New Zealand and Austria.
These two countries led a block of six in opposing the first draft submitted on August 21 and August 22.
Austria, Switzerland, Ireland and Norway are pushing for adding extra conditions like the termination of nuclear cooperation in case of India conducting a nuclear test and periodic review of India's compliance with non-proliferation norms before granting a waiver to New Delhi from the existing rules of nuclear trade.
In fact, many of the amendments proposed by some 15 countries have not found mention in the new draft, which is believed to contain tougher language but doesn't lay down conditions on India.
There are at least 20 countries that proposed as many as 50 amendments to the draft.
The NSG will meet again on Thursday to consider allowing nuclear trade with India.
