N-deal will not rock UPA Govt: CPI-M
Yechury asked the government not to make any move to implement the deal until the US Congress made amendments in necessary laws.

Bangalore: The CPI-M on Saturday said the Indo-US nuclear deal was not a serious issue to "rock" UPA Government, but warned the Centre against voting against Iran at the March 6 IAEA meeting.

"The nuclear deal is not a great harm to rock the government. If the government does not address four apprehensions raised by CPI-M, then we will have to think over it," CPI-M Poliburo member Sitaram Yechury said in Bangalore.

The party, however, would wait for the announcement on the deal by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh before offering its views, he said.

"We are waiting for the Prime Minister's statement on the deal. Manomhan Singh has taken a correct stand to inform the Parliament on the issue," he said.

He asked the government not to make any move to implement the deal until the US Congress made amendments in necessary laws. "Only on the basis of reciprocity, we should go ahead."

On Iran issue, he reiterated his party's stand that India should not vote against Tehran at the March 6 IAEA meeting to refer that country's nuclear programme to the UN Security Council.

It is not that CPI-M supports nuclear bomb programme of Iran, but the issue should be settled within IAEA," Yechury said.

He wanted India to abstain from voting in the event of the issue coming for a vote.
