TIRUNELVELI: The police seized fake currencies to the tune of Rs 6 lakh during a vehicle check here on Saturday. One person has been arrested in this connection near Tenkasi. On Friday night, a police team during a vehicle check near new bus stand at Tenkasi intercepted a motor bike on suspicion. While checking the motorbike bearing registration number TN-67 AV8276, the police found wads of notes wrapped in a cloth and kept inside the box. After a thorough check of the cash, the police found out that the currencies were fake and arrested the rider Rajendran (46) of Masanam Temple Street in Sundararajapuram at Rajapalayam. During interrogation it was found that there were many more fake currency cases pending against Rajendran who had a close contact with one Thoothukudi Gurumoorthy, an expert in producing fake currencies, for the past six years, said SP Vijayendra Bidari.Rajendran was also involved in a drug smuggling case booked by Ramanathapuram ‘Q’ branch police, the SP said. The currency notes seized from him were in the denomination of Rs 1000 and was about to be circulated in Kerala, the SP added.
