Based on their confessions, police recovered Rs 1.5 lakh, 25 sovereigns of gold and 10 kg of silver.Sources said there were several theft cases pending against the duo in Bangalore as well. Jayakumar said, “It is too early to comment on their role in the thefts reported in the city and only investigations will reveal whether they were involved in any other offences.” Kin Arrested for MurderThe city police on Friday arrested four persons of a family in connection with the murder of one Rajkumar whose body was found on the EVR Periyar High Road here on Thursday morning. Those arrested were Rajkumar’s wife Devi, her step-father Murugan and her brothers Thalapathy and Selvakumar. Police said an inebriated Rajkumar went to his father-in-law’s house to complain about his wife, who had left him a few days back, and her paramour and reportedly threatened to kill them. On hearing this, Devi’s brothers confronted Rajkumar and, in a fight that ensued, Rajkumar was murdered. Clueless as to how to dispose of the body, they kept circling the city with the body in Rajkumar’s auto. They later dumped the body in front of the Government General Hospital. The truth came to light after police interrogated Devi. House Break-insTwo house-break-ins were reported in the suburban areas on Thursday night. Police said Mahimaidass of Chromepet, who returned from a pilgrimage to Velankanni on Friday, found that the front door of the house was forced open. He rushed in and discovered that gold ornaments weighing nearly 30 sovereigns and a few thousands rupees in cash were missing. Police and forensic experts lifted fingerprints from the crime scene. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. A similar case was reported in Puzhal wherein Nallarathnam, the victim, lodged a complaint where he stated that gold jewels weighing 25 sovereigns were missing from his house following a break-in. first published:September 01, 2012, 08:14 ISTlast updated:September 01, 2012, 08:14 IST
