New forum to champion K-cause

CHENNAI: The People’s Forum Against Nuclear Energy, a newly-launched outfit based out of Chennai, staged their first ever protest in the city on Sunday. They demanded that the government shut down all nuclear plants across the country. This outfit consists of people from all walks of life, particularly people from coastal communities in Chennai. Armstrong who belongs to the forum said, “The forum was started ten days back. It was started with the intention of extending support to the ongoing struggle by the people of Idinthakarai village near Koodankulam. One of our demands is that the government immediately withdraw all cases registered against those involved in the struggle.”They also want the government to come up with a nuclear waste disposal plan. Around 200 people participated in the protest. The People’s Forum Against Nuclear Energy also plans to create public awareness on the ills of nuclear energy.
