THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Giving relief to hundreds of people suffering from psoriasis, Nimbatiktam capsule, which was found effective on a section of psoriasis patients, will be produced at the National Research Institute of Panchakarma (NRIP), Cheruthuruthi, in Palakkad.The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) under the Department of Ayush has decided to set up the facility at NRIP and NRIADD, Kolkata. The decision to set up the facility was taken following the representations from psoriasis patients and the consequent intervention of Union Minister for Health Gulam Nabi Azad, Shashi Tharoor MP, and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy following the stopping of production of the capsule in the Ayurveda Research Institute for Mother and Child Health Care (ARIMCHC), here, (formerly Regional Research Institute), around eight months ago.Sudarshan Nair, assistant director, ARIMCHC, told ‘Express’ that the CCRAS would initiate the medicine production soon after providing training to the technical staff and developing the facility at NRIP, Cheruthuruthy and NRIADD, Kolkata. The officers and technical staff will be trained at SRRI here for the purpose. In the meantime, for meeting the immediate requirements, the ARIMCHC will manufacture and supply the capsules.Sudarshan Nair said that the medicine was found effective on a good number of psoriasis patients. “In our state, around three percent of people are affected by psoriasis. Nimbatiktam was found effective and can be produced at an affordable price,” he said.
