No place for Pak High Commission?
No place for Pak High Commission?
Despite Maharashtra Government suggesting locations to st up a Pakistani High Commission in Mumbai, a suitable location has not been finalised yet.

Mumbai: Bandra and Breach Candy - the upmarket locales of Mumbai - are being speculated as the future office of the Pakistan High Commission. If the deal comes through, it will enable India to have a consulate in Karachi.

But repeated delays in finalising the premises has left both the Ministry of External Affairs and the Paskistani Government with little choice. Even property brokers are slowly washing their hands off the whole deal.

"It usually takes a week to a month for finalising such deals, depending on whether residents and societies agree. I don't know why there is so much delay," says Chairman, Prakash Estates, Prakash Jain.

Both time and options are rapidly running out for all parties. In fact, the Breach Candy property is on the verge of being leased out after the owner was kept waiting for six months.

The Maharashtra government says it has done all it could and as of now, it can only wait and watch.

"We have recommended and now we are waiting for a response. They will come and select the property and then we will finalise," says Secy General Administration Department, Maharashtra, Rameshchandra Kanade.

Property owners had earlier refused to lease out space to the Pakistan Government. Now, inspite of willing owners, the delays in finalising the deal may leave the High Commission high and dry.
