BANGALORE: The City Central Library at Hanumanthnagar under the South Zone is surrounded by innumerable civic woes, starting from garbage disposal to lack of parking space. When City Express visited the library, the librarian Shivaning Dodamani said, “There is constant sound which disturbs the readers in this library. We have no problems when it comes to the toilet facilities as there is one toilet which is sufficient for the limited numbers of readers who come here everyday.”On quizzing over the drinking water facility, he said, “As of now, drinking water is not available. The system is currently under repair.”As far the infrastructure is concerned, the building is situated on the 1st floor over Hanumanthnagar post office and is functioning within limited space. And to top it all, is the garbage accumulation near the library. Also, a few old vehicles were parked right in front of the library and it seems that they have not been moved for a long time. This is creating a problem as the library is already struggling with a lack of parking space.Adding to that the readers had a mixed reaction about the library and the facilities it has to offer. Sandeep S R, who is a visitor to the library said, “There is a public toilet near the library and the smell that emanates from the place is unbearable. I would urge the authorities to clean it.” Another reader, Vikas Shastri said, “The library is situated in such a place that constant vehicular movements is inevitable and the traffic noise is disturbing.” He further added, “The library can make many improvements like add more reference books, create space for readers and renovate the building.”
